Comrades and esteemed participants of the 7th Africa-Cuba Solidarity Conference,

Revolutionary Greetings from the people of Kenya, the Kenya -Cuba Committee and the Communist Party of Kenya. In this intervention, we shall delve into the intricate tapestry of African-Cuban solidarity, weaving together historical threads, contemporary manifestations, and the urgent call for collective action against imperialist forces.

I. Historical Roots of Solidarity: A Shared Struggle Against Colonialism and Apartheid

Our journey begins in the mid-20th century when Africa and Cuba found themselves entwined in the struggle against colonialism, imperialism, and apartheid. This alliance, forged in the People’s resistance against the domination of the privileged few against the suffering majority, Cuba, though a very small county became a beacon of hope, nurturing shared aspirations for freedom and equality. Cuba, under the visionary leadership of Fidel Castro, played a pivotal role in supporting African liberation movements, providing military aid, training, and crucial medical support.

II. The Cuban Torch in the Darkness of Apartheid: Aiding Southern Africa's Liberation Movements

Cuba's commitment extended into Southern Africa, where its troops supported liberation movements such as the African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa and SWAPO in Namibia. The flames of Cuban solidarity illuminated the path toward dismantling apartheid regimes, marking a historic chapter in the struggle for justice.

III. Cuban Medical Internationalism: Illuminating Kenya's Margins

In Kenya, the impact of Cuban solidarity is particularly pronounced through medical internationalism. Cuban doctors, embodying a commitment beyond borders, venture into remote areas, providing healthcare to marginalized communities. Their mission in Kenya is not just medical; it is a beacon of hope for those often neglected by mainstream healthcare systems. Cuba continues to pay a price for the entire survival of humanity, some of the members of Cuban medical brigades still remain under captive in Alshabaab controlled areas in Somali.

IV. Angola's Liberation and the Turning Tide: Cuban Intervention Against Imperial Aggression

The Battle of Cuito Cuanavale in Angola, a watershed moment, witnessed Cuban forces supporting the MPLA against external interventions. This pivotal event in the Angolan conflict contributed significantly to the eventual withdrawal of South African forces from Namibia. It stands as a testament to the potency of collective action against imperialist aggression. Comrades, the imperialist forces are not invincible, they can be defeated, they have been defeated before

V. Diplomatic Ties: Mutual Respect and Advocacy for Self-Determination

Diplomatic relations between Cuba and African nations have been characterized by mutual respect and unwavering solidarity. Cuba consistently advocated for African causes on the international stage, emphasizing the importance of self-determination and sovereignty. The bonds established during times of struggle lay the foundation for ongoing cooperation in various fields.

VI. Post-Apartheid Collaboration: The Flame Endures

Even after the end of apartheid in South Africa, the collaboration between Cuba and African nations has continued to thrive. This enduring alliance extends across healthcare, education, and culture, reinforcing the historic ties that originated during times of shared struggle.

VII. Cuba's Revolutionary Spirit: A Defiance Echoing Through Time

Cuba's revolutionary spirit, ignited during the 1959 Revolution, remains a resolute defiance against imperialist interference. The nation stands as a symbol of anti-imperialist struggle, championing causes that promote sovereignty, equality, and justice on the global stage. Cuba's contemporary stance against economic blockades and neocolonial interventions echoes the historical commitment to resistance.

VIII. Kenya's Perspective: Cuban Medical Internationalism as a Symbol of Resistance

In Kenya, the Cuban presence is not just a medical mission; it symbolizes a broader commitment to humanity and resistance against imperialist forces perpetuating inequality. The dedication of Cuban doctors resonates as a powerful act of defiance, aligning with Kenya's own struggles against external pressures and the the defense of medicine for the many and not for profit.

IX. Embracing Socialist Globalization: A Common Front Against Neoliberal Self-Interest

The Communist Party of Kenya (Majority) aligns itself unequivocally with Cuba's commitment to Socialist Globalization, founded on principles of mutual respect and unwavering solidarity. In stark opposition to the neoliberal globalization championed by the dominant class in the West, Cuba's vision offers a transformative socialist alternative. Socialist Globalization, as embraced by Cuba, embodies a collective pursuit of justice, equality, and shared prosperity. It stands as a beacon against the self-interest-driven neoliberal agenda that perpetuates global disparities. The Communist Party of Kenya recognizes the importance of forging alliances based on mutual respect and cooperation, advocating for a world order that prioritizes the well-being of all nations and peoples over the narrow interests of a privileged few. This alignment reinforces our shared commitment to shaping a more just and equitable global landscape.

X. Urgency of Collective Action: Facing the Current Imperialist Attacks on Cuba

As we convene in the shadow of the US-led economic blockade against Cuba, the urgency of collective action resonates profoundly. This conference serves as a critical juncture for African nations to stand in unison with Cuba, reaffirming our commitment to solidarity in the face of imperialist aggression.

XI. Conclusion: Forging Ahead in Solidarity

In conclusion, the African-Cuban alliance is a manifestation to the spirit of resistance against imperialism. Our historical ties, collaborative efforts, shared struggles, and the embrace of Socialist Globalization underscore the significance of this 7th Africa-Cuba Solidarity Conference. Let us forge ahead, hand in hand, as we raise the banner of solidarity higher, reaffirming our collective commitment to justice, liberation, and a more equitable world.

Thank you, comrades, for your attention and our collective dedication to the cause of solidarity.
